A helpless Shamsul returned to Assam, selling his land and generating the money to return to the Haryana village to take Sakina. But the father again backpedalled from his promise. A distraught Shamsul then approached the local police station, but the policemen refused to even listen to his plea. Incidentally, a Delhi based reporter Vijay, who was present at the police station at that time, offered to help Shamsul. Vijay got Shamsul connected with Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) and Child Welfare Committee, and with their help Sakina was rescued and sent back to her village.
