After the untimely death of Vichitravirya, Satyavati asks Bhishma to become the king of Hastinapur, however, Bhishma refuses to break his pledge of abstaining from this role. Later, Satyavati finds the solution to Hastinapur's problem of an empty throne in a dream. She asks Vyasa to bless Ambika and Ambalika, Vichitravirya's two wives, with a son each. Although her plan succeeded, Ambika and Ambalika's trepidations about Vyasa's appearance leads to further complications.
